Philly Craft Beer Fest Prep

February 28, 2010

In less than a week, I travel to the City of Brotherly Love for the Philly Craft Beer Festival. This is not the same as the Philly Beer Week which was recently pushed to June. Though the powers that be at Philly Beer Week have organized a Philly Beer Weekend for March 12-14 which includes a St. Patty’s Parade Beerfest which could be the greatest St. Pat’s event I’ve ever heard of. Needless to say, March will be quite a month for local beer lovers in Philadelphia.

Next week’s Philly Craft Beer Fest kicks it all off next weekend as the Philadelpia Cruise Terminal will host over fifty breweries, including locals like Ramstein and Spring House as well as internationals like Pilsner Urquell. Apparently Michelob is also expected at the event though few in the beer industry would consider them “craft.”

For those who have tickets to next weekend’s event or perhaps one of the other upcoming Philadelphia beer events or if you’re just heading to Philly sometime soon and you want to drink brewskies, make a point of checking out one of these great Philadelphia beer bars:

1. Monk’s Cafe offers a long list of beers on tap both in the front bar and the back bar.

2. McGillin’s Olde Ale House is the oldest, continuously operating tavern in Philly.

3. South Philadelphia Tap Room serves up local drafts.

4. Devil’s Den combines great beer with plenty of food to soak up the beer.

5. Memphis Tap Room taps around ten beers and serves fried pickles.
